Text-To-Speech

The full version of VM has Text-To-Speech (TTS) engine integrated into it. The engine can simulate human speech with a digitized voice. In virtual environments, TTS will be used to emulate text messages that are sent amongst users. These voices may be customized from the desktop so that users can have their own distinctive voice.

The TTS engine is a 3rd party library and has a separate license agreement from VM. You must agree to those terms along with VM's own license agreement for it to be installed on your system. The engine features seventeen distinct voices. The speed and pitch of the voices may be modified to provide for additional variation.

TTS technology is far from perfect. Some may enjoy it while others may find the computerized voices hard to decipher or just plain annoying. Many unique words and names may not be pronounced correctly. For those reasons you should consider TTS to be a supplement to the text which is displayed on the screen. If you find that you don't like the TTS, you may disable it when are in a 3D world. To permanently disable it, you it may be completely uninstalled from your system by using Add/Remove Programs from the Windows Control Panel.
