What is Virtual Messenger?

VM is one part app and one part community. It combines the appeal of traditional Instant Messaging and Chat Room applications with the 3D technology which millions have used for video game entertainment. The marriage of the two allow for a whole new realm of possibilities of interpersonal communication. Imagine going to a virtual bar to meet new friends both far and near. Imagine being able to introduce friends and family from distant corners of the globe within your own virtual apartment. VM allows you to do this with the click of a mouse.

VM Desktop - This interface is your gateway to countless public and private domains. The desktop allows you to search for worlds where people share your interest. It also keeps you notified of your buddies whereabouts and activities.

3D World Interface - Whenever you enter a world this interface is loaded. It allows you to explore your environment, and provides you with a wide range of functionality.

Avatars - The human 3d model which represents you in a virtual environment are known as avatars. You can customize their appearance from the desktop.

Text-To-Speech - Full versions of Virtual Messenger include a Text-To-Speech engine which simulates human speech when text messages are sent. Users may select from a range of voices from the desktop.

Peer-To-Peer (P2P) - This network architecture is what makes this system scalable and feasible. This implementation is what allows this service to be free. In a nutshell, P2P means that each Virtual Messenger client will create and maintain links with other VM Clients when using worlds, as well as transferring files.

Virtual Messenger is currently in its beta stage of development. This means this is an early public release which will have a number of technical issues which need to be identified and resolved. By downloading this application now, you are not only pioneering the VM community which we hope will steadily expand, you are also helping to find unidentified problem spots. We encourage you that you to report any difficulties you have with the system.
